ASHA Presentation Accepted for Accent-Related Issues
LDS & Associates is pleased to announce that Lorna Sikorski will present a session at the Annual ASHA Convention in Boston, MA in November 2007. The one hour seminar, is entitled “Blending ESL Learning with Accent Improvement Training in ESL Adults” Location information is presented below.
In brief, the presentation deals with the following issues in an interactive format. Designing accent programs for working adults is now routine for SLPs, especially in North America. Whether instruction is delivered in the North American English (NAE) work environment or in other English dialect settings worldwide, trainers must decide how to handle the ESL issues uncovered during standard accent assessments. If the goal is to build effective communication, accent program targets should include some grammar and usage errors. This seminar explores specific, practical strategies that ‘weave’ traditional accent strategies with direct and indirect instruction on polishing the adult learner’s ESL. This interactive seminar emphasizes practical lesson planning and language learning strategies.
