[Level 2-B Webinar] Digging into Intonation: A Look at the Principles Involved

This webinar is the only one of the modules in our Level 2 Series that is offered as a solo event!

Learning the ins and outs of how we use intonation in NAE is such an important step for our clients.  The right stress and pitch in messages not only helps the literal intelligibility but allows them to bring more nuanced messages to the listener!   If you know the basics already  – and have applied them in your accent consulting, you know there is still more to bring to your training.   If you’re at this stage, this webinar is for you!

What is Included?

This is a 2.5 hour, live online webinar with Lorna Sikorski.  Registrants receive significant handouts:  note-taking slide set, extensive bibliography, access to video practicum, and a bonus post-webinar handout to complete as an optional self-study project.   A Certificate of Completion is included.  Preferred Trainers who take/retake this course get a 5% calendar year discount added to their current PT discounts, good for anything in our online store.

Who is This For?   (check out the Tabs for more indepth detail on prerequisites and attendance policies)

  • Those who have done some intonation work in one instructional format, but now want applications to other formats!
  • Those who want greater depth in their intonation training sessions.
  • Those who have no problem seeing/working with intonation issues for Moderate or Mod+ accents, but who falter when presented with milder accents!

What do we cover?

Again, this is not for the novice instructor!  We discuss broader applications for English, as well as cross-language problems for intonation assessment and training.  We bring greater depth to assessment strategies with the P.O.E.C. complete assessments as well as the P.O.E.C. screening tools, providing intonation video clips for rating practice.  We close the session with a challenging self-study assignment on intonation for selected language groups.

This is not a passive participation event.  We want active trainers who will engage with Lorna Sikorski in lively brainstorming and Q&A, both live and written!

This product can only be purchased by members.

Features

Content:

  • The webinar ins 2.5 hours, on a specific date.
  • Participants complete a quick survey of their skills one+ week before the session. This allows us to customize our content further for our seasoned Preferred Trainers.
  • Participants receive a Member Access to all Session Landing pages, which they may download handouts, find Session tips, see access links to video practicum. This Member access expires 2 weeks after the last session date, unless previous arrangements have been made with the instructor.

This module is one of four themes in our Level 2 Series.  When delivered separately, it does not ‘blend’ concepts as it would in the Level 2 Series when discussing assessment skills, content, etc.  It does, however, fully cover how intonation can and should be a driving force in assessment and instruction.

***Please review the Attendance Policies and Prerequisites tabs for more detail.

Attendance Policies

This is a single session event where the goal is active participation.  We prefer live attendance, but allow for playback participation.

  • Participants unable to attend the live session are given access to the playback as soon as it is available. The goal is to complete it as soon as possible!
  • Playback must be completed within 7 days of the event: we want all to actively participate in the Q&A.
  • Participant access to their Member Portal for handouts, video access etc. will expire 2 weeks after the session date.

Prerequisites

  • PTs who took Level 2 or Level 2 in the past but who want a refresher of this particular theme are welcome!
  • Those trainers who have not taken any training with us but who actively use the P.O.E.C. or the P.O.E.C. screening tool and who use the M.E.E.C. programs are also welcome!
  • Potential participants who did not complete our Level 1 Series (WebOne) are encouraged to contact Lorna Sikorski to discuss their readiness for this program.  If you’re a seasoned trainer, we encourage you to talk to Lorna!
